Our Fed Up Celeb this week is Miss America 2008 and Fed Up Inc. Celebrity Board Member Kirsten Haglund. Kirsten displays the strength and courage found in most people twice her age. Kirsten courageously chose her Platform for the Miss America competition based on her own struggle and recovery from eating disorders. And she didn’t stop there. She went on to found The Kirsten Haglund Foundation to help fund treatment for eating disorder sufferers who cannot afford it (treatment can cost up to $2,500 per day and insurance companies are quick to deny or unfairly limit coverage). Kirsten is also part of the EDC, where she and I have both Lobbied on Capitol Hill for eating disorder awareness. And she is a fellow native of Michigan (just like me;).
Kirsten just happens to be on Radar today as well! So coincidental. I posted before the Radar Online keeps peppering their celeb gossip with stories about eating disorders and celebs and I must say I LOVE that about them. Maybe we will team up soon to do some stuff together! Anyway you can see Radar Online’s blog about Kirsten by CLICKING HERE.
Please visit her website to learn more. Kirsten also very generously donated her time to Fed Up Inc. to visit our students as a popular part of our pilot program in West LA (the students LOVED HER!). Kirsten is also a student at Emory University and can be seen on many television programs. She is a true inspiration! Her positive advocacy work, ambition and consistent action is something we strive to teach our Fed Up Inc. youth!
Finally Free,
Bridget Loves
